چکیده

Abstract Background and aims Two local threatened endemics from Valencian salt marshes were analysed a multidisciplinary perspective combining field studies with experiments performed under greenhouse-controlled conditions. The work aimed to investigate the habitat of two species but also explore their limits tolerance severe drought salinity mechanisms behind stress responses. Methods number individuals in several populations, climatic conditions, soil characteristics accompanying vegetation natural habitats study. Plants obtained by seed germination grown greenhouse subjected one month water treatments. Growth biochemical parameters after treatments finalised. Results No correlation between censed Limonium could be established. Although L. dufourii was found more saline soils habitats, controlled this severely affected treatment than albuferae , which is susceptible stress. A common response increase proline all treatments, mostly water-stressed plants. Oxidative markers, MDA H 2 O did not indicate significant differences species' responses kinds correlated activation antioxidant enzymes, pronounced conditions . Conclusions sites lower experiment indicated that it tolerates higher concentrations dufouri resistant drought. efficiently mitigate oxidative enzymes. results may helpful for conservation management species: whereas problematic, as tolerated salinities far beyond those environments, scarcity problem proved deficit.

Conservation of Rare and Endangered Plant Species for Medicinal Use

The special significance of medicinal plants in conservation stems from the major cultural, livelihood or economic roles that they play in many people’s lives. Uses of Medicinal Plants as a traditional medicine are followed by around 80% peoples in the world. This is nowhere more so than in those remoter parts of the world where cultural and biological diversity tend to be most concentrated, an...

Measuring progress in US endangered species conservation

Timothy D. Male* and Michael J. Bean Environmental Defense, 1875 Connecticut Avenue, Washington, DC 20009, USA *Correspondence: E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Since passage of the Endangered Species Act in 1973, over 1300 endangered and threatened species have been protected in the USA and its territories. Most species continue to face a significant risk of extinction, but the status of many spe...

A derivative approach to endangered species conservation

www.frontiersinecology.org © The Ecological Society of America T US Endangered Species Act (ESA) is arguably one of the most important pieces of environmental legislation in US history. It has been a success, since at least half of the listed species have benefited (Male and Bean 2005). However, implementation of the ESA has involved inefficiencies, including an exclusive focus on species that ...

Identification of Bottlenecks in the Plant Life Cycle for Sustainable Conservation of Rare and Endangered Species

Long term survival of a species relies on maintenance of genetic variability and natural selection by means of successful reproduction and generation turnover. Although, basic to monitor the conservation status of a plant species, life history data are rarely available even for threatened species due to the gap between the large amount of information required and the limits in terms of time and...

Conservation choice on the rare endangered plants Glehnia littoralis

The coastal herbs Glehnia littoralis have been domesticated as traditional medicines for many centuries. The domestication may have caused changes or declines of cultivated G. littoralis (CGL) relative to wild G. littoralis (WGL). By comparing fruit properties of CGL and WGL, we tested the hypothesis that domesticated G. littoralis have suffered major declines, and human cultivation cannot be s...
